The story of Haas & Haynie dates back to the days when Ed Haas’s grandparents, John and Eva Rutledge, cast their lots with the great Western migration. They were among the pioneers who crossed deserts and mountains, through danger and hardship, to come to California for a new life. The unwavering work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit that those great pioneers brought with them formed the foundation on which Ed Haas built his company – a company that helped shape the landscape and skylines of a young and growing nation.
Today at Haas & Haynie, we continue to follow the spirit of Grandfather Rutledge, who led the wagon train in which his family traveled to California. To quote from an old letter saved by Ed Haas’s mother: “It was the custom of the leader, John Rutledge, to ride ahead of the caravan and explore the countryside in search of desirable stopping places. When such a spot was sighted…he would ride back until he sighted his party, then stand high in the stirrups and wave his hat, urging them forward.”
We believe there will always be an abundance of opportunity for those who search for and create it. Our mission is to “ride ahead at the caravan”, “explore the countryside”, and like John Rutledge, urge each other forward to fulfill the opportunities awaiting us.
